Hold onto your handlebars! Romans of all ages will be cycling into the wee hours of Saturday morning during the 14th annual Dog Days Lunar Bike Ride.

The ride will begin in the parking lot of Mount Berry Square mall tonight at 10 p.m.

“This is meant to be like a last fun fling during the summer. Families with children can come have a great time and not have to worry about traffic,” said Chris McCormick, executive director of the Coosa Valley Cycling Association.

The ride is one of the CVCA’s annual fundraisers. Proceeds will benefit a bilingual bike safety program the organization offers and will help provide helmets and bike lights for underprivileged cyclists.

Anyone interested in participating can still register beginning at 9 p.m. in the Mount Berry Square mall parking lot on Martha Berry Highway.

Admission is $20 for adults, or $12 if you don’t want a T-shirt. Registration for children ages 5 to 12 is $13 with a T-shirt and $5 without. Children ages 4 and younger are admitted free.

All riders must wear helmets, said McCormick. The CVCA also asks that all children younger than 13 be accompanied by an adult.

Food will be provided to riders near the food court entrance of the mall. Pizza, watermelon, snacks and ice cream will be available at no extra charge to those who have registered.

For a longer, more scenic approach to cycling, Berry College will host a Historic Berry Bike Tour on Saturday. The tour begins at 10 a.m. from Hermann Hall on the main Berry campus. The three-mile ride includes Roosevelt Cabin, Berry College Chapel, the Log Cabin campus and the Ford buildings. The event is free, and reservations are encouraged but not required by calling 706-368-6775.
