At long last, the Braves are finally playing well at home. Problem is, they wont be back at State Mutual Stadium for quite some time.
Tonight the Braves open an eight-game road trip that contains two series against Northern Division opponents.
It begins in Lexington, Ky., where the Braves will play a four-game set against the last-place Blue Claws, followed by four games in Charleston, W.V., against the first-place Power.
The Braves, who were off on Tuesday after completing a season-best 5-3 homestand on Monday, dont play another home game until Friday, July 25.
In the meantime, theyll try to improve on their 15-31 road record. Theyve gone 3-8 on the road since the All-Star break, the worst record in the Southern Division.
Edgar Osuna will pitch tonights series opener for the Braves, who swept a doubleheader against Kannapolis on Monday to gain a series split after dropping the opening two games to the Intimidators.
It was nice to win these last two games and get some momentum, said Freddie Freeman, who will carry a 14-game hitting streak into tonights series opener. Winning a couple of games in a row does a ton for our confidence.
The Braves (34-60 overall, 12-13 second half) have won seven of their past 10 games at SMS a huge turnaround for a team that lost 13 straight at home from May 2 through June 6.
But theyll have to start winning on the road if they want to make a push toward winning the Southern Divisions second-half title.
Going into tonights game, the Braves are in fourth place in the division, and trail first-place Columbus by five games.
NOTES: Freeman is batting .455 with three homers and 15 RBIs during his hitting streak.
The Braves allowed only one unearned run over 14 innings while sweeping the two seven-inning games against the Intimidators on Monday night.
The Braves are 6-6 against Northern Division foes this season.
