It could be midnight before all Floyd County customers have their power restored, said Curtis Hart, a Georgia Power spokesman.
He said at 9:30 p.m. Sunday that about 40 homes were still without power.
A quick-moving storm blew through the area around 2 p.m. Hart said about 450 people were initially without power in Floyd County, most of those in Coosa, West Rome and downtown.
A tree landed on the power lines in front of the Autry home at 114 Hycliffe Road, around 2:45 p.m. The family was eating as the old tree split near the top, against a heavy gust of winds. It snapped the lines, said Steve Autry. We didnt hear it fall, but the winds were forceful.
During the storm, a tree was knocked down and in the roadway at 6 Dellwood Drive.
The storm also caused a tree to fall on a car at 115 Hycliff Road, and according to Hancock no injuries were yet reported from the damage.
At Richard B. Russell Regional Airport, 0.89 inches of rain was reported Sunday.
The traffic lights at Martha Berry Boulevard and the bypass and another at John Davenport Drive and Division Street were also knocked out during the storm but were operating again by 4:45 p.m.
A tree was also reported down on Huffaker Road in western Floyd County, which took down some power lines.
Today's Rome Braves game, scheduled to start at 2 p.m., has been postponed. They will play a doubleheader Monday at 6 p.m. at State Mutual Stadium. The games will be seven innings.
