The Rome Floyd Metro Task Force, while investigating a possible drug sale Thursday night, arrested a Rome man after he led police on a chase and struck an officer.
According to Rome police:
Quintney Quiari McKnight, 26, of 14 Conn St., was arrested after leading police on a chase that started after he was pulled over. McKnight then reportedly struck an officer while driving off, and then led police on a chase on Circle Drive before being caught.
McKnight would not cooperate with police when he was stopped, and he was dragged from his car. Police were told by a passenger in the car McKnight was on his way to Lindale to make a drug deal.
Police also found a 2-year-old child in the backseat who had not been wearing a seatbelt throughout the chase.
McKnight was taken into custody and booked on multiple driving offenses, along with charges of third degree cruelty to children, aggravated assault on a police officer, criminal attempt to sell crack cocaine and fleeing or attempting to elude police.
McKnight was being held at the Floyd County Jail today.
The officer was treated by Floyd EMTs at the scene after he received what were described as minor scrapes.
