CAVE SPRING A Cherokee princess is married in a cave. A Confederate soldier hides from Union troops in that cave during the Civil War. Out-of-work farmers under the Works Progress Administration turn a swamp into Cave Springs huge swimming pool at Rolater Park during the Great Depression.
These events and more will be brought to life by actors in the Eighth Annual Theatre Arts In the Park drama camp of Alton Holman Heritage Arts Inc. this July 7 -18.
The annual summer drama camp of AHHAS will focus on the oral history of Cave Spring and surrounding environs this year. Classes will culminate in a public performance at Cedartown Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. on July 18 The original script and song stem from video interviews with local residents done by the Cave Spring Oral History Project. The drama camp is the recipient of two grants: a Grass Roots Program grant from the Rome Area Council for the Arts and a grant from the Polk County Arts Commission.
The camp employs professional teachers of the theatrical arts and will take place at the Hearn Classroom Building in Rolater Park, Cave Spring the first week and at the Cedartown Performing Arts Center the next week. Tuition is $195 for youth age 8 - 17 (scholarships available).
