Magnolia magazine debuts in Greater Rome on Monday. The new publication’s motto is “Celebrating the Lives of Local Women.”

The free magazine will be available at more than 50 locations around town, including stores and boutiques, salons, restaurants, offices, the library and the Greater Rome Visitors Center.

Magnolia editor Charlotte Atkins says the community needed this type of publication.

“We set out to create something that was both stylish and relevant to local women, and that also gives you a strong sense of our community,” said Atkins.

“We accomplished that in our inaugural edition. The wonderful thing is that with each new version we can improve it, adapt it and mold it to what the women who read it want from it.”

The first edition includes more than 150 local people. Topics range from food and drink, fashion and local history to motherhood and health.

Several local women are spotlighted in portraits that capture a certain part of their personalities.

“Our photographers did a great job of capturing the spirits of the featured women. Readers are going to enjoy the images in this magazine,” said Atkins. “And, I imagine, the She Said feature that has local ladies answering questions will be popular with readers, too. I really hope so.

“There’s so much in Magnolia for readers to enjoy, from the photos and stories to stylish advertising that spotlights our local businesses and stores.”

The new women’s magazine includes a companion Web site — MagnoliaWoman.com — that includes all the content featured in the magazine as well as some extra features, like a behind-the-scenes video from some of the photo shoots.

The magazine is a long-tabloid format on newsprint, published by News Publishing Co., the Rome-based news and advertising enterprise that is the parent company of the Rome News-Tribune.
