New director named for local Red Cross chapter

Jac Whatley has been named the new executive director of the Coosa Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross.

A resident of Rome, Whatley is married to Katherine Whatley, provost at Berry College. They have two children and are members of the First Baptist Church of Rome.

He previously served as executive vice president of Montreat College in Montreat, N.C. He has also served as administrator of First Baptist Church of Asheville, N.C.

“I can think of no more important cause that the American Red Cross because of their mission in disaster relief, promotion of health and safety eduction, armed forces emergency support and supporting the delivery of biomedical and blood services,” Whatley said.

He received his bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest University and his law degree from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C.

He replaces Terri Cook, who stepped down to pursue other interests.
