A man arrested Tuesday night is facing charges of manufacturing marijuana after Rome police investigated reports of fireworks being used, reports stated.
According to Rome police reports:
Brenton Keith Frost, 18, of 20 S. Blanch St., was taken into custody for charges of manufacturing marijuana Tuesday at 10:55 p.m. after neighbors called in reports that he was shooting off fireworks in his backyard.
When police arrived at the scene, they found Frost still shooting off fireworks. While searching the area, officers found a 6 to 8-inch tall marijuana plant growing in a pot in the backyard.
Police reported that Frost told them he found the plant growing outside a vacant house and took it to see if it would grow.
Frost remains at the Floyd County Jail this morning waiting for a court appearance.
Police searching for drug suspect
Police are on the lookout today for a drug suspect that was last seen fleeing from police Tuesday night on Cave Spring Street.
According to Rome police reports:
Anthony Lamar Greene Jr., 21, of 334 S. McLin St., was pulled over Tuesday night after police received complaints of possible drug trafficking at a Cave Spring Street residence.
Police watching the residence saw Greene arrive and leave again after three minutes, then pulled him over to question him.
He took off his shoes during a search, then ran away from police, who were unable to find him Tuesday.
Police later found a baggie of marijuana weighing less than an ounce in his right shoe, and on his cell phone found incriminating evidence of text messages and photographs that featured drugs.
Warrants are pending for misdemeanor possession of marijuana and obstruction of police officers.
Rome man assaulted at home Tuesday
Rome police are searching for two suspects driving a green, older model Ford Thunderbird after the two tried to enter the house of a Rome man Tuesday.
According to Rome police reports:
Around 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, a Rome man reported that two suspects pulled up in front of his house in a green Ford Thunderbird and asked him if he was selling a car at his house. He said he was not selling a car, and thought the two had left.
A few minutes later, he heard his carport door rattling. One of the suspects hit him in the neck and stomach when he opened the door, which he quickly shut again.
The victim told police that he thought the car had Alabama tags, but police were unable to find the two men.
Loaded handgun found in bushes during yardwork
Rome police responded Tuesday evening to a call of a handgun being found at a 12th Street address, reports stated.
According to Rome police:
The handgun, a black Cobra .380-caliber automatic pistol, was found in the bushes behind the complainants house while she was doing yardwork Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
The gun was taken into evidence by the Rome police and a search is being conducted to find its owner.
