Highway 9 in Alabama is closed in both directions North of Cedar Bluff after a tractor trailer accident spilled some hazardous material.
According to emergency dispatchers in Cherokee County:
The accident involving an 18-wheeler happened around 4 p.m. Central Time. Dispatchers said traffic was closed in both directions on Highway 9 while hazardous material crews work to clean up the material.
Dispatchers did not say what the material was but that it may contain PCBs, which is why the HAZMAT team was called in.
The highway may be shut down until 9 or 10 p.m. Central Time, and in the meantime, police are diverting traffic to Gaylesville to Highway 35 before vehicles can return to Highway 9.
