Downtown Rome will host 280 speeding cyclists Saturday in the Georgia Cup Criterium Cycling event.
Cyclists will compete in two stages at locations in Rome on Saturday, then at a third stage on Sunday in Gordon County.
Team time trials will run from 8 .m. until noon at Technology Parkway.
The stage events are Saturday in the Between the Rivers District downtown, closing the northbound side of Broad Street from East Third Avenue to East Fourth Avenue to traffic from 3:30 p.m. until the end of the event, around 10 p.m.
Cyclists will follow a loop that stretches from Broad Street down Third and Fourth avenues to East Fourth Street, cutting out traffic to sections of East First, East Second, East Third and East Fourth streets.
On Sunday, racers will complete the weekend event at the summit of Horn Mountain in Gordon County.
