Brian and Buddy Knapp will be trading their usual places with the former assistant Brian now calling the shots.

Brian Knapp will stay on with Douglas High in Douglas, Ala., after the departure of its head football coach Brad Waggoner.

Knapp was named interim head coach for the Eagles and will stay on in hopes of getting the head coaching position. Knapp’s father will assist his son.

“A lot of people might say I’m too young, but they don’t realize that I’ve been groomed for this since I was a little boy,” Knapp said. “I’ve always wanted to be a head football coach.

“They (principal Sara Mitchell and Marshall County Superintendent Tim Nabors) were impressed with the job I had done with the offensive side of the football, so they named me interim head football coach right now. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.”

Knapp began his coaching career at Coosa High where his father was the head coach. After that, the duo then began coaching at Mt. Zion where Brian Knapp served as offensive coordinator.

After his father retired, Knapp went to coordinate Chattooga’s offense under John Starr. He also served as Chattooga’s girls basketball coach.

After spending three years with the Indians, Knapp used his offensive skills last season at Chattanooga Central, before being called over to Douglas.
