The Rome City Commission plans to set its property tax rate for 2008 at the end of July.
It appears the millage rate will stay the same, said Commissioner Evie McNiece, who chairs the citys finance committee.
The current rate is 24.43 mills, which means the owner of a $100,000 house would pay $977.20 for government and school services, less any applicable homestead exemptions.
Public hearings are scheduled for July 16 at 10:30 a.m.; July 21 at 6:30 p.m. and July 24 at 8:30 a.m.
The announcement came during the Rome City Commissions Tuesday meeting. Commissioners Buzz Wachsteter and Bill Collins were absent.

City Manager John Bennett also reminded city water customers that an odd-even schedule remains in effect for outdoor watering.
The Georgia Environmental Protection Division loosened restrictions for the city early this month and weve already noticed a significant increase in water consumptions, Bennett said.
A request for complete exemption from the state-mandated restrictions is still pending, he said.
Commissioner Kim Canada again told the board there has been no change on General Electric Co.s offer to donate property at its closed plant on Redmond Road and Lavender Drive.
Canada said he wanted to dispel recent rumors speculating on the proposed disposition of the property. Attorneys are still negotiating the terms of the donation, he said, and no meetings have been held to discuss how the land would be used.
We dont even know if we can get it yet, he said.
In other actions Monday, the board:
Heard an overview on proposed changes to the sign ordinance from Planning Director Sue Hiller. Plans are for each commissioner to review and comment on the draft ordinance before public hearings are scheduled.

Approved ordinance amendments to clarify that the chief of police may swear in officers; allow alcohol on the City Trolley when it is rented for private parties; and let employees designate multiple beneficiaries for their retirement.
