Caucus: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY PRESENTATION
IT Director Jason Lovett said he and two staffers Tim Houston and Steve Burkhalter handle information technology needs for 28 city departments.
The IT department has four major areas of responsibility: the citys computer network infrastructure; information security services; enterprise applications ranging from e-mail to the city Web site; and user support that includes training and maintenance in addition to requests for help.
The three-person department responded to 1,327 help-desk requests in 2007.
Projects in the works include instituting video surveillance in certain parts of the city; switching the telephone and Internet service to Deltacom; assisting with a redesign of the Greater Rome Convention and Visitors Bureau Web site slated for unveiling this summer; and working on technology promised for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics championship tournament this fall.
Caucus: SIGN ORDINANCE PRESENTATION Planning Director Sue Hiller
Hiller updated commissioners on proposed revisions to the sign ordinance.
The Floyd County Commission received a similar report, as did the Joint Development Oversight Committee.

The ministry has more than 100 people in the program and only 33 are employed. She asked the board to consider ways it could help with the situation.
City Manager John Bennett noted the city does hire convicted felons and weve had some successes, but does not have any openings at this time.
Willie Whatley, a program participant, said many parolees and probationers want to get back into society but hes concerned that tough times and no work will lead some to do what they did before.
