Floyd County Commissioner Garry Fricks made a formal apology to the Floyd County Commission today regarding his recent arrest in Calhoun on driving charges.
He was arrested Thursday morning and charged with driving on a suspended license, improper transfer of a license plate and no proof of insurance.
"I made a terrible mistake. I procrastinated on some things that were small and evolved into something larger," Fricks told his fellow commissioners. "I don't have anyone to blame but myself."
County Commissioner Jerry Jennings presented a release that members of the board approved.
"The board of commissioners acknowledges the arrest and has instructed the county clerk and county attorney to review commission policy to determine if any conflict might apply in this case," the release stated.
County Attorney Tommy Manning said that has been done and there are no conflicts.
Both the board and Fricks stated that they hope the incident does not interfere with the county's business or the business of the Floyd County Board of Commissioners.
Fricks said he wants to continue on the commission, and has qualified for his post, but said he will resign if the arrest interferes with county operations.
Fricks said Monday he provided proof of insurance after his arrest and said the tag issue was a result of his purchase of a new vehicle that had been in the shop. He said he got the title on the repaired truck Thursday afternoon.
He said he is trying to determine what he has to do to renew his license. The police report said his license has been suspended since 2001. Fricks said he was aware for the past few months that his license was suspended and is still trying to find out why.
