Two Lyerly residents were killed in a car wreck in Chattooga County Monday afternoon, officials stated.

According to Joseph Swords with the Georgia State Patrol Rome post:

Charlie Marvin Caldwell, 86, and Alice Fay Ivester, 62, both of Lyerly, were traveling westbound on Ga. 114, just four miles west of Lyerly, around 2 p.m.

When Caldwell attempted to turn his 1989 Buick Century right onto Sardis Church Road, he was rear ended by Jeremy Hankins, 31, of Lyerly, who was driving a delivery truck for Frito Lay.

Caldwell and Ivester were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Hankins was reportedly not injured in the collision.

The case and charges against Hankins are pending.
