Karon Futch, co-owner of The Polka-dot Peach, is answering the questions for todays Small Business Snapshot.
What is the primary purpose of your business? We monogram both classic and unique items.
What is your business background? (Answered by Kim Wheeler, co-owner) My twin and I are both Early Childhood Education instructors at Coosa Valley Technical College. We are also licensed registered nurses. Karon works as a nurse PRN for Redmond Regional Medi-cal Center.
Why did you start this particular business? We bought a monogramming machine and started monogramming for our niece Ava, who is 17 months old. Other family members started requesting monogrammed items, then friends followed after. Everything started to snowball and here we are.
What makes your business unique? We offer a wide variety of items that are personalized. We offer handbags, beach bags, flip flops, travel mugs, hand towels, golf towels, burp cloths, bibs, sippy cubs, headbands, belts, chokers, cosmetic bags and many many more items. We have something for everyone.
What do you enjoy most about your chosen profession? We love to create unique, personal items and pride ourselves in offering things that can't be found in local stores.
What has been the biggest or most interesting challenge to overcome as a small business owner? Just getting started with our website was a challenge in itself. All of the ins and outs of people actually being able to find our website was the biggest challenge. It is not as easy as it looks.
