What was believed to be a malfunctioning air conditioning caused the temporary evacuation Monday of Kangaroo Jakes, a childrens amusement center in Armuchee.
Rome Fire Battalion Chief Steve Wilson said the building, next to the Food Lion on Martha Berry Highway, was evacuated shortly after 11 a.m. when employees saw light smoke near the ceiling in a back area.
None of the other businesses in the building reported smoke and Gene Meyer, general manager of Kangaroo Jakes, called an electrician to repair the unit on the roof.
Meyer said about 20 patrons inside were evacuated as a precaution.
