Lavender View Garden Club members met at the Rome-Floyd County Library for their May meeting following the educational program on Basic Design sponsored by the Rome Federated Garden Clubs and led by Betty Benson, a Master Flower Show Judge from Douglasville. Benson made several designs demonstrating the types of designs to be seen at the Standard Flower Show that will be presented by the Rome Federated Garden Clubs at the Coosa Valley Fair Sept. 30-Oct. 4.

President Peggy Eason conducted the business meeting. Adine Shepherd, awards chairman, reported the club had received a third place Civic Improvement Award for its civic plot, won Honorable Mention for the year book and received the Standard of Excellence Award. Shepherd also reported the progress of the Blue Star Marker project honoring all veterans past, present and future. She announced that the date and time for the dedication would be Nov. 9 at 2 p.m.

Members were reminded that the September meeting would be in Kingston at the History Museum at 10 a.m. with Grace Brinson as hostess and Alice Andrews as co-hostess.
