Lauren Hendrix has helped build a strong tradition at Pepperell High in her four years as a competition cheerleader.
On Thursday, Hendrix signed with Shorter College to help build a team, as the private school will begin its first competition cheerleading squad in the fall.
Shorter head coach Rachel Magness is no stranger to Hendrix. The Berry College graduate has coached her for the past seven years on the Hot Shots all-star squad.
She is an extremely valuable athlete, Magness said of Hendrix. Her skill level is off the chart in terms of flyers in this community.
While at Pepperell, Hendrix was a part of the Class AA state championship squad her freshman year and helped the team win the region championship each year since.
Im so excited for her, Pepperell cheerleading coach Sara Bright said of Hendrix, who was team captain her senior season.
She will be a great asset for the team. Shes an unbelievable flyer, a great tumbler and an all-around good cheerleader.
Hendrix will be joined at Shorter by fellow Hot Shots team member Shelby Gibbs from Trion, which won the Class A state championship this season.
We talked to several coaches at other colleges, Bright said. But when we found out she would have the opportunity to stay close to home, thats where she wanted to go.
Shorter College is the only private college in the state of Georgia and one of only a few private schools in the entire Southeast to offer full scholarships to competitive cheerleading athletes.
