A Rome man was beaten up and robbed by three suspects around 9 p.m. Tuesday night behind a local elementary school, Rome police reports stated.
According to the reports:
The victim was riding in a vehicle with the suspects, who then pulled behind a West Rome school and forced the victim out of the car. The three men then proceeded to beat and kick the man and took $800 from his pants pockets.
The victim was not seriously hurt in the attack and only sustained minor cuts and bruises. Police are investigating.
Police find escapee from Alabama
The Floyd County Police Department this morning arrested a man who escaped from Alabama authorities and had multiple warrants out in Georgia, reports stated.
According to reports from the Floyd County Jail:
Daniel Leon Welchel, 37, of 297 Lovell Road, was taken into custody early this morning and was found to have escaped from Coosa County, Ala. and Alabama state authorities. Welchel also had warrants out for Bartow and Coweta counties and was charged by Floyd County Police for theft by taking.
$200 taken in Oakland Avenue burglary
An Oakland Avenue homeowner returned home from work Tuesday to find their front door partially open and $200 missing from the home, Rome police reports stated.
Rome police reports also stated that a back window was broken during the burglary.
Man accused of stealing PDA from officers car
The Rome Police Department arrested a Cartersville man early Monday morning for felony theft, vehicle larceny and shoplifting, reports stated.
According to Rome police reports:
Jeffrey Taylor Gilreath, 26, of Cartersville, was arrested and charged by the Rome Police Department after an officer reported his PDA was stolen from his squad car in the parking lot of the East Rome Wal-Mart.
Officers found the suspect in the parking lot and searched his vehicle, finding the PDA and its rubber casing. Gilreath was also charged with shoplifting after police found a watch in his car and checked Wal-Mart security tapes to see if he had committed the crime.
