A Summerville councilwoman was arrested on misdemeanor battery and simple assault charges and released from jail over the weekend, reports stated.
According to Floyd County Jail and Floyd County police records: Betty Kelett Bush, 81, of 64 Taylor St. in Summerville, was charged with misdemeanor battery and simple assault Friday night. Bush reportedly pointed a loaded firearm at the victim who was a resident in the 6100 block of Big Texas Valley Road in Armuchee.
Bush told police she came to the residence because the victim did not return a phone call and she was worried about him. The victim, however, told police Bush had been pressuring him to marry her and she had become angry because he would not.
Bush told police that she usually kept 38-caliber revolver in her car, but for some reason placed it in her purse before entering (the victims) residence. Bush told police that at some point the victim lost control and took the gun from her and pulled her down onto the floor and began to drag her on the floor, which is when she bit him in the right forearm and left a large laceration. Pictures were taken of the lacerations. Bush also reportedly had bruises and small cuts on her arms.
The victim told police that when Bush entered the house she pulled the gun out of her purse and began pointing it at him, which is when he grabbed her arm and took the gun away from her, reports stated. He told police that he did not drag her on the floor and that the only reason he grabbed Bushs arm was to take the gun away, which is when she bit him, reports stated. The victim told police that after that incident, Bush became crazy and violent.
The gun was found by the driveway Bush was released from jail on Saturday on $2,500 bail.
