MRS. SHAWN ALAN BATES
Anna Marie Mull of Rome and Shawn Alan Bates of Calhoun were married at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, May 10, 2008, at the Rome Baptist Temple in Rome.

The bride is the daughter of Rodney and Kandy Mull of Rome. She is the granddaughter of Harold and Doris Shaw, Jimmie and Elizabeth Justice and Katherine Mull, all of Rome, and the late Allen Mull.

The groom is the son of Suzanne Bates of Calhoun and Jerry Bollinger of Tennessee. He is the grandson of Shelby Dillard of Calhoun and the late Gene Dillard.

The Rev. Billy Goolesby of Rome performed the double-ring ceremony before an altar decorated with a 15-branch candelabra and two spiral candelabras decorated with greenery, spring colored roses and embanked by ferns. A program of wedding music was provided by pianist Miriam Moon of Powder Springs and soloist Whitney Lindsey of Adairsville. Selections included “Canon in D,” “Bridal Chorus,” “When God Made You,” “How Beautiful” and “The Wedding March.” A recording of “The Lord’s Prayer” was played which was performed by the late Allen Robertson. The bride, given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, wore a candlelight satin A-line gown with a sweetheart neckline and side draping with beaded metallic embroidery accented with pearls on the bodice that continued into the skirt. The full skirt flowed into a chapel-length train. She wore a tiara of scrolled rhinestones, crystals and pearls with a two-tier finger-tip length veil with scalloped ends of pencil edging and beaded flower embroidery. She also wore a pearl necklace and earrings, gifts from the groom. The bride carried a clutch bouquet of assorted spring colored roses accented with fern and held together by a line of pearls. She also carried a lace handkerchief that belonged to her great-great grandmother.

Nicole Trammell of Rome, cousin of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Renee Burkhalter of Armuchee, Autumn Herring and Connor Mull, cousin of the bride, both of Rome and Allison Ingram of Lindale. They wore olivine sleeveless taffeta tea-length dresses with ruched empire waists and hand tied bows in the back. They also wore pearl earrings, bracelets, and necklaces, gifts from the bride. The bridesmaids carried clutch bouquets of assorted spring colored roses, accented with fern and stems of pearl, entwined with satin ribbon.

Danica Bates of Calhoun, cousin of the groom, was the flower girl. She wore a white satin dress with an overlay of sheer and lace with two satin bows in the back. She carried a white satin basket filled the red rose petals.

Daniel Albrittin of Cedartown was best man. Groomsmen were Darren Bates of Calhoun, cousin of the groom, Chase Holtzclaw of Cave Spring, Paul Mull, brother of the bride, and Rob Williams both of Rome. Cousins of the bride, Trent Mull and Nick Trammell, both of Rome, served as junior groomsmen. Dominic Bates of Calhoun, cousin of the groom, served as ring bearer.

The mother of the bride wore a two-piece ensemble in ivory. Her jacket was edged with pearls and sequins. In a small vase, she carried white roses accented with ribbon and pearls. Because she was out of the country, the groom’s mother was unable to attend the ceremony. In her honor, flowers were placed in her seat. Grandmothers of the couple received corsages of white roses.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the church. Refreshments included the bride’s three-tier round white cake with strawberry filling and cream cheese icing decorated with a small dot pattern resembling pearls and topped with silver monograms of the couple accented in spring colored roses. The groom’s cake was a two-tier chocolate on chocolate cake with a monogram of “B” on the top and accented with fresh strawberries. The couple left the reception in a pearl white limousine.

The evening before the wedding, a rehearsal dinner was held at Provino’s in Rome.

Other pre-nuptial parties included a miscellaneous shower hosted by the Justice family; a miscellaneous shower hosted by Kim Trammell and Teri Mull, aunts of bride; a shower hosted by the ladies of the Rome Baptist Temple; a bride’s weekend retreat hosted by the bridesmaids; a groom’s weekend retreat hosted by the groomsmen; a bride’s breakfast at the Landmark Restaurant hosted by Kim and Nicole Trammell and a breakfast for the groom and groomsmen held the morning of the wedding.

After a wedding trip, the couple will reside in Rome.
