Two teens from Cobb County drowned at Red Top Mountain State Park near Cartersville today, according to the Bartow County Sheriff's Office.
The bodies of 15-year-old Edwardo Avalos of Kennesaw and 18-year-old Jose Roberto Martinez of Acworth were recovered at around 2 p.m. Both were students at North Cobb High School and were apparently on a senior skip day trip.
The two drowned in approximately 60 feet of water while trying to cross a 150-yard cove.
Officials with Bartow County EMA, EMS, fire department, sheriff’s office, Cherokee County dive team, Georgia Department of Natural Resources and State Parks responded to the scene shortly before noon.
