Irwin Bagwell qualified Monday as a Republican candidate for Floyd County Commission Post 3.

A native of Floyd County, Bagwell has extensive business experience and will use that experience as a Floyd County Commissioner.

A fifth generation Floyd County farmer, he currently is in business with his brother, Charles. They grow corn and soybeans on their farms in Vann’s Valley in southwest Floyd County.

Previously, with their father, John, they operated Bagwell Dairy, which began in Floyd County in 1930. The Bagwells ceased the dairy operation in 2006.

Bagwell’s platform: Be fiscally responsible; governmental transparency; listen to the citizens of Floyd County; less government.

Bagwell was elected to serve on the Floyd/Polk County U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Administration Committee from 1989 through 2007 and is a member of numerous trade organizations.

He served on the Unified Land Development Code citizen committee, 1996-98; the Rome-Floyd County Planning Commission, 2002-07; and chaired the Comprehensive Plan Update Committee.

He and his wife, Susan White Bagwell, have two children — John and Will — and attend First Baptist Church of Lindale. www.irwinbagwell.com
