Cmdr. Steve Rood of the Coosa Valley Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans, is expected to turn the van in and resign as the van coordinator, Simpson said.
A lawuit filed in Floyd County Superior Court by Roman John Johnston because he was kicked off the van and told he could not ride it prompted the action by Rood, Simpson said.
He will turn in the van and the decision as to what happens to the van will go to the state commander (of the DAV) said Simpson. Right now the van will be turned in to the VA hospital.
The van could be assigned to other areas in Georgia if a greater need is found said DAV Department of Georgia Commander Moses A. McIntosh Jr.
The way it normally goes is that they (the VA hospital) will look for other van drivers, said McIntosh. He said that if the VA Hospital doesnt find a qualified coordinator or drivers then he will reassign the van to another area.
The van is owned by the National DAV and the VA pays for insurance and upkeep, Simpson said.
Attempts have been made to contact Rood.
