A public meeting will be held next week to allow residents to comment on the possible closure of the McFry Lane railroad crossing.
The closure of the McFry Lane railroad crossing would result in the elimination of through traffic on McFry Lane. Those persons traveling between Gaines Road and Pinson Road via McFry Lane would have to find an alternate route if the railroad crossing were to be closed.

The state Department of Transportation is working to eliminate or upgrade railroad crossings throughout Georgia. Improvements to the Pinson Road crossing, which is designated as high priority in the DOTs report, would include the installation of gates and signals, as well as improvements to the roadway crossing the tracks.
The DOT said it is recommending closing the McFry Lane crossing because it would result in a better road network than if the Pinson crossing were closed; the Pinson crossing is used by six school buses and none use the McFry crossing; the Pinson crossing is wider; and improvements to the McFry crossing would be more expensive.
The public meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the County Commission meeting room of the Floyd County Administration Building at 12 E. Fourth Ave.
