TASTEE-FREEZ IS BOUGHT BY MENDELL
Dave Mendell has purchased and is now the operator of Tastee-Freez on Turner McCall Boulevard.
A new sani-broiler has been installed, Mr. Mendell announces, to produce hamburgers in less than 1 1/2 minutes. Other new equipment includes an ice machine and dry cooler for soft drinks.
The Mendells have lived in Great Falls, Mont., Canada, Columbia, South America and Newfoundland in connection with Mr. Mendells former occupation as a superintendent in heavy construction.
They and their 8-year-old daughter, Sharon, live at 807 Charlton Rd.

NEW POSTAL RATES GO INTO EFFECT IN ROME AUG. 1
New postal rates do not go into effect until Aug. 1, Rome Postmaster Leo Russell emphasized today.
Postmaster Russell said he had had many calls in connection with the increase since many people do not understand when they start.
First class mail will go up from 3 cents to 4 cents for three ounces, air mail from 6 to 7 cents; and postal cards from 2 to 3 cents.
But it isnt until next month.

ROMANS ARTICLE TO APPEAR IN JULY NATIONAL MAGAZINE
An article by a Roman has been accepted by American Heritage magazine and is expected to appear in the July issue.
The author is Dr. John N. Ware, retired Shorter College professor and an avid student of the War Between the States.
The forthcoming article, Dr. Wares second in American Heritage, concerns John Russell, a courageous Confederate soldier who was a neighbor of Dr. Wares grandfather. The retired educator tells of Russells display of courage in delivering a message from Col. Mosby to Gen. Sheridan concerning the execution of Mosbys men who had been captured.
Dr. Ware, who resides at Yarbroughs Nursing Home, has revealed he is working on yet another article which he will submit to American Hertiage.

INDEPENDENT LEAGUE ALL-STAR GAME AT LEGION FIELD TONIGHT
The annual Fourth of July Independent League All-Star baseball game, sponsored by the Rome Recreation Department, will be staged tonight at Legion Field starting at 8 p.m.
Hosting the All-Stars will be Kingston, leading in regular season play with a 12-2 record. The leaders are managed by Emmett Wilkey, who also plays centerfield.
The following are the Kingston players with batting averages: Doug Harris, LF (.460); Earl Wilkey, 2B (.531); Emmett Wilkey, CF (.438); Charles Holmes, SS (.380); Cliff Martin, 3B (.450); G.B. Hood, Bill Cox, RF (.360); Vincent Jolly, 1B (.290); James Hobgood, C (.310); pitchers Bobby Wade (4-0), Buddy Hollis (3-0), and Phil Hood (3-1).
The three other teams besides Kingston which make up the league, and who will furnish the all-stars, are Adairsville, Cedartown and Shannon.
The all-star roster: Cedartown Ed Dukes, C; Hank ONeal, 1B or 3B, Butch ONeal, P or 1B; Ed Wilkes, SS; John Odom, and Oscar Battles, OF; Adairsville James Alexander, C; Gene Cox, 2B; Donald King, P; Doc Sisson, P; Leonard Woodring, OF; Jimmy Whitworth, SS; Shannon Luke Nasworthy, 1B; Pat Locklear, P; Wane Shellnut, OF; Julius Locklear, 3B; two other players to be named prior to the game from the Shannon squad.
