  • An academic camp to help children with math, reading, writing and CRCT preparation is open to students entering first through sixth grades. The session will be 8:30 til noon June 2-12 at the Kelsey-Aycock-Burrell Center, 41 Washington Drive. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. The registration deadline is Wednesday, May 28.   • Creative Playhouse Children’s Theatre Company will present two Musical Theatre Camps for rising first through sixth-graders, June 23 – 28 and July 7 – 12. Sessions will feature Saturday performances at Rome-Floyd County Library as part of the Summer Reading Program. For more information, call Sherrie Bacon, 706-232-0479.

  • The Dance Centre will offer Camp Carousel, “A Fairy Princess Fantasy,” June 16 – 19, for ages 3 – 10. Activities will include dance, theatre, art and music, and both morning and afternoon sessions are available.   • Coosa Valley Technical College is offering Summer Manufacturing Camp will be held June 9-13 for youth ages 14-16 on the Floyd County Campus. 30 participants will attend hands-on sessions with knowledgeable instructors in the areas of robotics, computer-assisted drafting, machine tool, injection molding, and industrial electronics. One day of the camp will be devoted to industrial tours of Pirelli Tire, F&P Georgia and Suzuki Manufacturing. $35 for the week.   • Shorter Basketball Camp will be held from July 14-17 on the Shorter Campus. Ages 5-9 will be from 9 a.m.-Noon for $70. Ages 10-18 will be from 1 – 5 p.m. for $80. Call Coach Slonaker at 706-233-7349 or e-mail mslonaker@shorter.edu for a brochure or more information.

  • Shorter Youth Football Camp will be held June 16 - 20 for ages 7-12 on the Shorter College campus. $85 per child. Shorter football coaches and players will conduct this fundamental teaching camp. For more information contact Coach Mathis at 706-233-7522 or e-mail Tmathis@shorter.edu

  • The Rome Area Council for the Arts will sponsor summer art camps for children ages 4-9. The camp sessions will be 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. June 16-20 and July 14-18 will be for 4-6 year-olds. June 23-27 and July 21-25 will be for 7-9 year-olds. The camp will take place in the art classroom at the RACA offices, 248 Broad St. The charge for the week-long camp is $100. The registration fee includes instruction, supplies and refreshments. The registration deadline is Wednesday at 3 p.m. the week before each camp begins. To register for a camp, call RACA at 706-295- 2787, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Tuesday through Friday.

  • Berry College is hosting a soccer day camp for boys and girls ages 6-11 this summer. Dates are June 16-20 and July 21-25. Cost is $160 per week and includes meals, ball, and t-shirt. Camp runs from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. each day but early drop-off and late pick up is available. Call Richard Vardy at 706-236-1728 for more information.

  • Recycling and ecology-minded brainstorming are themes for Invent Now Kids programs, which originate from the nonprofit National Inventors Hall of Fame Foundation. The Camp Invention program will be at Darlington School, June 16-20. The registration fee is $205 for the week-long day program and includes daily snacks and a T-shirt. Various discounts exist through May 31. Registrations received after May 31 require a $20 late processing fee. Each program is limited to 110 children.   • The Rome-Floyd County YMCA Summer Camp is open to children starting at age 3. Weekly sessions begin May 27 and run through Aug. 1.   • Chieftains Museum/Major Ridge Home announces the sign up for their summer camp, “AY Camp,” which means “summer” camp in Cherokee. Indian lore, storytelling, games, early settler ways, arts and crafts, theatre, nature and a cool T-shirt all for only $110. This camp is for children 9 through 12 years old and you can pick your week: either June 16-20 or June 23-27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Space is limited, sign up early.   • Unity Christian School announces its summer camps for 2008. All camps are open to Unity and non-Unity students ages 3 to 12. This year there are 5 themed camps, including The Time Machine, Walk Like an Egyptian, Tropical Rain Forest, The Wild West, and Cheerleading.   • Kindermusik of Berry College will offer a variety of classes this summer for ages newborn through 10 years. Music for ages newborn - 18 months (Kindermusik Village) and 18 months - 3 years (Musical Beginnings) will meet weekly beginning June 2 and an adult attends with the child. Classes for children ages 3 - 10 will meet throughout the month of June and July. All classes are held in the Ford complex on the Berry College campus.   • Darlington School announces its summer programs for 2008. All camps are open to Darlington and non-Darlington students, with age ranges from pre-school to 12th grade. This year includes overnight options as well as day camp options. Camps include Summer Scholars, tennis, soccer and soccer plus, lacrosse, Delightascope, Camp Invention, Camp Darlington, artistic expressions, cheerleading, football, basketball, baseball, in addition to summer math, reading, writing and study skills.   • The Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority is now registering for summer camps and sports camps. Register your child for a week or for the summer. Summer camps offer a variety of activities based on weekly themes. Parents can select a camp from five community locations. In addition to the traditional summer camp, many new camps have been added this year and include Road Trip Camp, Challenger British Soccer Camp and All Sports Camp. Tennis camps and football camps are also being offered. Scholarships are available. Camps are offered for ages 3-15. Costs vary by camp.   • Garden Lakes Baptist Church Summer Day Camp-June 9-13, 16-20, and 23-27 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. for children completing Kindergarten - 5th grade. Daily activities include arts and crafts, music, recreation and fun field trips. Friday Fun Days are out of town field trips. $15 one-time registration fee, $85 per week camp fee.   • Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Georgia is celebrating 55 years in the community with a “Summer of 55 Camp” for children ages 5 ¾ - 18 years. Daily field trips, 1950s themed activities, mini camps in sports and art, special adventure trips for teens and tons of fun! Only $20 per week. Breakfast and snack are included in the price.
