Most of the entertainers who take the stage at the DeSoto Theater would like to think their performances were magical. But Joe Mazzola has nothing to worry about. His performance will be just that.

Mazzola will be presenting an array of magic and illusions on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in a show that will benefit the History DeSoto Theater Restoration Fund.

With over 20 years of entertainment experience under his belt, Mazzola is a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and Kidabra International and specializes in entertaining families with his talent for combining magic, comedy and audience participation.

“This will be a full-scale evening magic show,” Mazzola said. “It’s the sort of thing you’d see on a cruise or somewhere like that. It’s a pretty big production.”

Joined on stage and off by his family, including daughter Samantha as lead assistant, Mazzola said the show will feature illusions, audience participation, comedy and even live animals.

The show will also be a tribute to great magicians. Particular segments will honor such greats as David Copperfield and Harry Blackstone Jr.

One of the highlights of the show will be a version of the Blackstone “sawing a woman in half” illusion as well as the “dancing handkerchief.” Mazzola even promised that sometime during the hour-and-a-half show, someone in the audience would be enchanted by the spirits of the theater.

“I think people will be surprised by the caliber of the show,” he said. “It’s a full production and I think it’ll be thoroughly entertaining.”

“Magic Live” starring Joe Mazzola takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the DeSoto Theater located at 530 Broad St.

Showtimes are 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. As a special promotion, each $10 adult ticket purchase entitles the patron to one free student ticket.

Order tickets online at the RLT Web site, www.romelittletheatre.com or by phone at 706-295-7171.
