UDC CLUB NEWS
The Emma Sansom Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy met Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. at the Rome-Floyd County Library. President Daryl Jean Gould conducted the meeting. Gould led in the invocation, pledges to the flag and the singing of Dixie. A program on flag etiquette was presented by the president.
Special Days of Observance were remembered with the birthdays of Sidney Lanier (3rd), General John B. Gordon (6th), Alexander H. Stephens (11th), and Georgia Day (12th) and Presidents Day (19th). Members and one visitor were welcomed. Historian Generals program was on Rebecca Felton. Officers and committee reports were given. Joy Hight, music chair, presented a program on Bonnie Blue Flag with music and history of the song. Sandra Salmon, Southern literature and arts chair, presented the poem on The Homespun Dress.
A special Presentation was given by Gould on Phoebe Yates Pember and Chimborazo hospital. Phoebe Yates Pember is the theme for the UDC School essay for this year. Members contributed can goods for the We CAN Do It Project of providing food for the local food pantries. The meeting closed with the singing of Blest Be The Tie That Binds. Following the business meeting, a time of food and fellowship was enjoyed. Hostesses for the meeting were Joy Hight and Linda Atkins.
