Floyd County residents will not be facing a property tax hike this year after all.

“It took a lot of teamwork, but we are going to have a balanced budget with no use of our reserves and no increase in the millage rate,” Commission Chairman Jerry Jennings said.

Commissioners will meet at noon Monday to adopt a $46.79 million general fund budget for 2008.

The original budget proposal called for $47.5 million in spending bolstered by a transfer of nearly $1 million from the fund balance.

In a series of workshop sessions this month, commissioners worked with Finance Director Gary Burkhalter, County Manager Kevin Poe and agency heads to whittle expenses.

The biggest savings came from deferring employee raises recommended by a salary study that compared pay rates around the region.
