Things are looking up for local rockers KneckDown, but theyll never be too big to play a gig at home.
After what many consider a meteoric rise in the area music scene for the band, theyve secured a coveted spot tour-ing with Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Marshall Tucker Band. But true to their roots, KneckDown is still a Rome band and say they are honored to be able to play at this weeks First Friday Concert as the featured act at Bridgepoint Plaza. The free concert begins at 7 p.m. The Slips will open for KneckDown.
This is probably the biggest honor Ive had as a musician, said Jay Shell, lead vocalist and songwriter for the band. Getting to do a big community event like this is great. Its nice when I get to do a show somewhere other than a bar and my daughter gets to come.
During a St. Patricks day gig, they unknowingly were being scouted for a possible tour and played the show of their lives. An offer soon came around and the band is set to sail with such names as Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Marshall Tucker Band on next springs Simple Man Cruise.
Its a pretty cool gig and great exposure for the band, Shell said. But Im actually more happy that were repre-senting Rome and letting people know good music can come out of these small towns. And Ill be honest with you. Play-ing for my community and my family and friends at First Friday is just as cool as playing with Lynyrd Skynyrd. Shell is joined on stage by Chris Austin on acoustic guitar and vocals, Dave Harper on lead guitar, Shannon Wil-son on bass and vocals and Derrick Ingram on Drums.
