Rachel Elizabeth Brewster and Stephen Richard Marek, both of Austin, Texas, were married at 7 p.m., Saturday, June 30, 2007, in the boxwood garden at Zion Farms.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Fleming Brewster of Rome. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bargainnier of Rome, Mrs. Edward Wood Brewster Sr. of Atlanta and the late Edward Wood Brewster Sr.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Patrick Marek of Chesterfield, Va. He is the grandson of Margherita Agnes Marek of Lakewood, Colo., Liliana Krystyna Zerebecki of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the late Harry John Marek and the late Marian Michal Zerebecki.
The Rev. Scott Jackson performed the double-ring ceremony under a wisteria arbor flanked by iron urns containing ferns. A memory candle was placed under the arbor in remembrance of the couples grandparents. Pew markers were arrangements of lavender hydrangea, white daisy pompons, purple lisianthus and babys breath. The entrance was marked with iron pyramids containing sprengeri ferns, white satin ribbon and a large grapevine wreath.
A program of wedding music was provided by Seven Hills String Quartet and soloist Kim Jackson. Selections included Surely the Presence by Wolfe, Ode to Joy by Beethoven, To a Wild Rose by McDowell, Air from Water Music by Handel, Canon in D by Pachelbel, The Lords Prayer by Malotte and Spring from The Four Seasons by Vivaldi.
Jennifer Brewster Helbing of Cartersville, sister of the bride, was the matron of honor. She wore a champagne satin spaghetti strap dress with draped bodice, bubble hem skirt and a lilac silk sash. She carried a hand-tied bouquet of white hydrangea, lavender lisianthus, and dusty miller.
The bride, given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, wore a strapless dupioni silk gown with pleated bodice and beaded Alencon lace accents. The bodice and A-line skirt had a side-draped detail and buttons down the back of the chapel length train. She wore a narrow lovers cut veil with ribbon-edge detail. She also wore pearl earrings, a gift from her parents. Her heirloom garter was made from the wedding veil worn by her mother at her wedding. The sixpence in her shoe was lent to her by her sister. She carried a bouquet of lavender hydrangea, lisianthus, purple statice and mini calla lilies with satin ribbon and accented with pearls.
Stephen Scott Fisher of San Ramon, Calif., was best man. Kenneth Lawrence Basehore of Pearland, Texas, brother-in-law of the groom and Bradley Ryan Helbing of Cartersville, brother-in-law of the bride, served as ushers.
The mother of the bride wore a chocolate silk tea-length strapless gown accented by a silk tulle stole with bronze crystals at the ends. The mother of the groom wore a royal blue chiffon formal-length gown with a thigh length jacket trimmed with embroidered lace and featuring three-quarter length flared sleeves. The mothers were presented with tussie-mussies of ivory sweetheart roses, lavender lisianthus, dusty miller and purple dendrobium.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the pavilion at Zion Farms. Refreshments included the brides three-tier cake. The bottom tier was a strawberry cream cake filled with fresh strawberries and the top two tiers, each turned at an angle, resembled a stack of gift packages. The top two tiers were flavored lemon pound cake with raspberry filling and sour cream pound cake filled with key lime mousse. The cake was iced in traditional butter cream and topped with a nosegay of purple dendrobium orchids and clusters of purple dendrobium orchids arranged around the lower tiers. The grooms cake was a yellow cake with fudge icing in the form of an antique camera and placed on a tripod. Guests signed a framed photo of the Atlanta skyline placed next to the grooms cake, which was taken by the groom atop the Georgia Tech chemistry building where the couple met.
The evening before the wedding, a pre-wedding fiesta was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Harris Bagley, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Beaver, Dr. and Mrs. Edward Brewster, Dr. and Mrs. Larry Formby, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Foss, Mr. and Mrs. Kerry Griffin, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hight, Jane Huntley, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Lowden, Cynthia Mathis, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Nash, and Mr. and Mrs. Claud Saunders at the Brewsters home. The day following the wedding, a brunch was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. William Brewster and Mr. and Mrs. Brad Helbing at the home of the Brewsters.
Other pre-nuptial parties included an engagement party hosted by Mr. and Mrs. King Askew, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Barron, Dr. and Mrs. David Bowen, Barbara Cordle, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Cox, Mr. and Mrs. Sammy Ely, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fleming, Mr. and Mrs. Rocky Huffman, Judye Lucas, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lumpkin, the Honorable and Mrs. Walter Matthews, Mr. and Mrs. Wade Monk, Jackie Mooney, Pam Morgan, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Seigler, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Sharp, Mr. and Mrs. Brooke Temple and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Watters at the Watters home and a lingerie shower and girls luncheon hosted by Beth Aaron, Rachel Bargainnier, Anne Brewster, and Anne Somerville at Coosa Country Club and favors for out of town guests were provided by Ellen Lumpkin and Lea Duncan and included items from Rome.
After a wedding trip to Napa, Calif., the couple resides in Austin.
