A Coosa family is homeless after a fire ripped through their house after 2 p.m. today.
Fire officials said the blaze was the result of food being left on the stove unattended.
The fire moved up a kitchen wall and into the attic space, allowing it to spread and destroy the roof, said Rome Fire Department officials.
Officials said the 50 Leisure Drive home lost much of its roof while most of its vinyl siding melted. The blaze also melted the siding on the home of one of their neighbors.
