Gov. Sonny Perdue today signed Senate Bill 194 setting Feb. 5, 2008 as the date of the states next presidential preference primary.
Parties must submit the names of candidates to the Secretary of State no later than Nov. 1.
The bill also contains a provision that allows county election officials to begin counting absentee ballots at 7 a.m. on the date of the election, although the results cannot be announced until after the polls close at 7 p.m.
Other legislation Perdue signed today:
Senate Bill 17 expanding the types of drugs optometrists may prescribe and administer ;
Senate Bill 40 making it a felony to falsely swear an absentee ballot oath;
Senate Bill 96 allowing onsite and oral testing of employees under a drug-free workplace program qualifying for workers compensation premium discounts;
Senate Bill 102 redefining the qualifications of chiropractors and making it a felony to practice without a license;
Senate Bill 226 defining the qualifications of soil scientists;
House Bill 90 requiring licensed funeral establishments to keep a stock of at least eight caskets or models for delivery within 24 hours; and
House Bill 369 revising child custody laws to require parties to submit parenting plans to the court.
