Suzuki Manufacturing of America Corp. reached a historic milestone at its Rome plant Wednesday when the 200,000th all-terrain vehicle rolled off the production line.
Doug Gust, a professional ATV rider and three-time national champion with Suzuki Racing, drove the new vehicle before a crowd of applauding plant employees.
I appreciate you guys doing all the hard work, Gust told the workers. We are going to win the (ATV racing) championship this year.
SMAC Vice President and Treasurer Akira Kyuji said the Rome plant has an excellent reputation within the company for efficient, high-quality manufacturing.
Kyuji, who served on the team that selected the plant site and became its first employee, reflected on the Japanese companys five-year history in Rome.
When we first got here there was nothing, no building just trees and deer. But look at you now, he told the plant workers. We have 350 employees producing over $30 million in sales revenue each month.
