Rome Area Council for the Arts (RACA) will celebrate its 30th anniversary at Fanfare 2007 on March 24 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Coosa Country Club. Fanfare is the largest annual fund-raising event for RACA and features a wine tasting, dinner, entertainment, a silent auction, an art market and a live auction.
The funds raised at Fanfare help RACA fulfill its mission of supporting the visual, performing and literary arts in Rome and Floyd County through a network of patrons, students and artists. RACA hosts gallery exhibits, organizes poetry readings and book signings, supports performances of music, dance and theater, sponsors school programs, and teaches summer art camps. RACA also maintains partnerships with numerous organizations and programs, including the Rome International Film Festival, the Bach Festival Weekend, Empty Bowls Project, Clocktower Holiday Tour of Art Spaces, Rome Art Coterie, Rome Area Writers, Ninebark Press, Oostanaula Folk Dance Collective Contra Dances, Seven Hills Summer Theatre, Evening Discussions: Lectures in History, Culture and the Arts at Oak Hill and others. RACA also participates in the Rome International Festival, Heritage Holidays, Chiaha Harvest Fair, One Book/Many Voices, the Southern Women Writers Conference, and community events. Through its programs and activities, RACA serves senior, student and adult residents in our community and increases the number of visitors to Rome and Floyd County.
At Fanfare, the wine tasting will include numerous fine wines courtesy of Empire Distributors.
The Fanfare menu will include cuisine by Chef Greg Paulson of Coosa Country Club.
Entertainment will be provided by Harry Musselwhite, Wendell Barnes and Russell McClanahan.
The silent auction will include art chairs and chair-themed art created and will be donated by more than 30 local artists, including Marcia Austin, Brian Barr, Bambi Berry, Gene Billian, Elizabeth Bonner, Barbara Briley, Debby Brown, Renee Burgess, Jackie Butler, Janda Canalis, Stephen Campos, Jane Gray Collier, Val Featherston, Clare Gilliland, Siri Gundersen, Ben Harrison, Jess Hinshaw, Cheryl Hodge, Chris Hodges, Margaret Ingram, Richard Ingram, Linda Jones, Mary Elena Kirk, Gene Lanier, Vicki McKenzie, Frank Murphy, Gwen Perkins, Greg Price, Gail Reed, Richard Scott, Susan Simmons, Nancy Smith, Diana Smithson and Mary Ruth Sumner.
The live auction will feature more than 25 donated services, including dinners, weekend getaways, spa trips and arts experiences. In addition, work by some of the most collectible artists in the South will be auctioned by Jim Tarpley.
The art market will include work by artists from throughout the Southeast. Galleries represented in the market are in Asheville, N.C., Memphis, Tenn., Tuscaloosa, Ala., Atlanta and Rome. Work by numerous local photographers will be a highlight of the Fanfare art market.
In addition, Fanfare will include new works for purchase by visual artists previously honored as Artist of the Year or as Featured Southern Artist.
