The Floyd County Commission has issued a call for bids to build a hangar that would house Coosa Valley Technical Colleges new aviation program.
Proposals from firms willing to both design the facility and supervise construction are being accepted through March 15. Plans are to start aviation maintenance and avionics classes in the fall semester, with the hangar ready for use by Oct. 1.
The 15,000-square-foot hangar/classroom would be built at Richard B. Russell Regional Airport next to a county-owned building the school is leasing as administration offices.
Commissioners agreed to contribute up to $1 million to the project but costs could be higher than projected. County Manager Kevin Poe said the bid proposals should help clarify what will be needed.
