The U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded $490,000 in drought aid to help communities in Georgia, including Chattooga, Floyd and Polk counties, Congressman Phil Gingrey announced today.
The funding comes as part of the Emergency Conservation Program (ECP), a program providing assistance for farmers to rehabilitate farmland damaged by natural disasters and for carrying out emergency water conservation measures in periods of severe drought.
"This money will help our Northwest Georgia farmers rehabilitate their farmland and avoid some of the lasting burdens brought on by periods of draught," said Gingrey. "Our farmers are vital to our economy and community, and I'm glad they're receiving this much-need aid."
