Bring on the dirt and load up the bulls.
What does it take to bring a popular bull-riding event to downtown Rome?
First we have to haul in lots of dirt, about a foot deep to cover the floor of The Forum, said Charlie Lowry. Then we haul the bulls in with trailers, unload them and put them in their holding pens.
Lowry, of Summerville-based 4L Rodeo Company, is bringing a bull-riding event back to The Forum after a successful show last year, and said this years show promises an even more exciting display of rodeo skill.
With holding pens where the stage is normally located, and the riding arena closer to the bleachers, Lowry said audience members will be up close to the 35 riders scheduled to appear.
Its an invitational, Lowry said. Weve got sponsors and its a team format. Riders compete for a team win and for an individual win as well. The riders are from all over the Southeast, and weve got bulls that have been in professional bull-riding events and even national finals.
He added that in addition to the riders, clowns will be doing comedy throughout the show.
The event takes place Jan. 12 and 13 at The Forum, beginning at 8 p.m. each day.
