Ashley Anne Garrard and Ian Shannon Griffin, both of Rome, were married at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, at First United Methodist Church.
The bride is the daughter of Ellen Henderson Garrard and Michael Raymond Garrard, both of Rome. She is the granddaughter of Grace and Jack Henderson of Lanett, Ala., and Robert F. Garrard of Rome.
The groom is the son of Janice and William Grady Griffin. He is the grandson of Freddie Leigh of Wildwood, Fla., and Mae Griffin of Dawson.
The grooms father performed the ceremony. The altar was adorned with urns of fall flowers. Family pews were marked with leonidis roses, hypericum berries and foliage in cascading arrangements.
A program of wedding music was provided by organist Dr. Hamilton S. Dixon, pianist Dan Bishop and guitarist Mike Gunter. Selections included The Gift of Love, Canon in D by Pachelbel, Ave Maria by Schubert and Jesu, Joy of Mans Desiring by Bach.
Hayley Garrard of Rome, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Drew Nicholson, Tracy Raymond, Shauna Free and Dylan Moseley, sister of the groom, all of Rome, and Jessica McDougall of Stamford, Conn. Attendants wore strapless, floor-length satin gowns in alternating fall shades of espresso and burnt orange. They carried bouquets of chocolate leonidis roses, cymbidium orchids, miniature Calla lilies and green fall hydrangea.
Flower girls were Marley Garrard, daughter of the bride, and Karen deYoung, niece of the groom. They wore floor-length, sleeveless gowns with ivory bodices and chocolate satin and chiffon skirts. The top and bottom of the gowns were divided with brown chiffon sashes adorned with satin flowers in the same color. Their headpieces consisted of English ivy and hypericum berries.
The bride, escorted by her father and presented by her parents, wore a formal-length ivory A-line strapless gown adorned with lace appliqué and satin ribbon trim. Her fingertip veil was accented with matching satin trim. She carried an heirloom handkerchief and her bouquet contained mango Calla lilies, golden yarrow, hypericum berries and other assorted fall flowers.
Chad Kennedy of Jacksonville, Fla., was best man. Groomsmen were Neal Howard, Mikel Sykes and Zane Nicholson, all of Rome, Brian Hitchcock of Atlanta and Max Mangravitti of Tempe, Ariz.
Ushers were Lewis Hammond of Charleston, S.C., and Will Seifert of Rome.
The mother of the bride wore a chocolate satin gown below the knee with a chiffon overlay and strapless bodice. The mother of the groom wore a royal blue strapless tea-length gown. Both carried tussie mussies of chocolate leonidis roses and mixed fall flowers. The grandmothers wore corsages of ivory gardenias.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Hamilton S. Dixon, where the bride and groom arrived in a vintage Rolls Royce. Refreshments included the wedding cake topped with a toss bouquet of fall flowers, surrounded by miniature cake squares in various flavors, decorated with fall flowers. The grooms cake was decorated to resemble the logo of the band Phish.
A rehearsal dinner was hosted by the grooms parents in the Garden Room at Oak Hill.
Other pre-nuptial parties included a stock the bar engagement party hosted by Anthony Barba, Mikel Sykes and friends at Smoky Cielos above Old Havana Cigar Co.; a miscellaneous shower hosted by Susan Webb and Lisa Sapp at the Griffin home; a lingerie shower hosted by Kristie Dixon, Drew Nicholson and Tracy Raymond at the Dixon home; a Sunday brunch at the Cooper Lodge of Zion Farms hosted by Mike Snow; and a bridesmaids luncheon hosted by the bride and her mother at the Victorian Rose Tea Room.
After a wedding trip to Ocho Rios, Jamaica, the couple resides in Rome.
