Five members of Rome’s Boy Scout Troop 113 were presented with the Eagle Scout Award in a ceremony Tuesday night at First United Methodist Church.

Hunter Anderson Davis, William Berry Waters, Robert Boyce Mull, Joshua Lanham Fisher and Jack Fisher Yancey were honored at the event.

“I’m proud of all five of the Scouts. They’ve worked hard to accomplish a goal to become part of an elite group,” said Scoutmaster Andy Davis. About 150 family, friends and fellow scouts attended the occasion.

All five boys from Troop 113, which is sponsored by the First United Methodist Church, took on a different project to qualify for the honor.

Davis, 14, an eighth-grader at the Darlington School, landscaped a portion of the backyard of the William S. Davies Women’s Homeless Shelter. He is a devoted sportsman, has backpacked more than 100 miles at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, N.M., and is a member of First Baptist Church. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Anderson Davis.

Waters, 14, a freshman at the Darlington School, built new planters and shelving for East Central Elementary School. He is a promising young athlete who also hiked in New Mexico and is a member of the First United Methodist Church of Rome. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eric Waters.

Mull, 14, also a ninth-grader at the Darlington School, landscaped another portion of the William S. Davies Women’s Homeless Shelter. An active church member at First Presbyterian Church, he also backpacked in New Mexico. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Chason Mull.

Fisher, 13, an eighth-grader at Rome Middle School, helped the YMCA construct wooden trash can holders at Grizzard Park. He is an avid soccer player and plans to attend the 2007 World Jamboree in England to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Scouting for Boys. He attends the First United Methodist Church and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Fisher.

Yancey, 15, also a freshman at the Darlington School, cleaned out, painted and placed shelving in a room for the Koinonia Soup Kitchen at First Baptist Church, where he is a member. He plays both lacrosse and golf at Darlington and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Delos H. Yancey III.

All five boys attended the 2005 National Jamboree held at Ft. A.P. Hill in Virginia.

Eagle Scout is the highest rank in scouting. Fewer than two percent of all U.S. Scouts achieve the rank. Troop 113 has had more than 100 Scouts reach the Eagle rank in the past 22 years.
