An Oklahoma City man was accused last week of first-degree murder for fatally shooting a county commissioners grandson.Prosecutors alleged that Brandon Lamar Timmons, 25, shot Stevon Hammond late Feb. 2.
The defendant was in court the day before his arraignment on a marijuana charge, records show.
Mr. Hammond, 25, was the grandson of Oklahoma County Commissioner Willa Johnson (Dem., District I).
Police said the shooting took place at Mr. Timmons rented house, which smelled of marijuana.
The key witness was Braylon Timmons, the defendants younger brother.
The witness said he was asleep on a couch at the house when he heard a gunshot, then saw his brother, Brandon Timmons, standing near the victim holding a black .40-cal. pistol, a police detective reported.
Brandon told him that they needed to leave, the detective added.
Brandon Timmons was being held in the Oklahoma County Jail.
His brother also had been arrested on a murder complaint, but will not be charged, prosecutors said.
