EDMOND--The Maltese Falcon will take to the stage (in some sense) at the Edmond Library, 10 S. Boulevard St., at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17.Actually, the famed movie production will take to the read, since it is being presented as part of this years Big Read series.
The Big Read is an annual program that encourages the reading of the same book by a given community, and also encourages the community to hold discussions about the book.
This particular version of Maltese will be the librarys presentation of Reduxion Theaters reading of the crime saga that starred Humphrey Bogart in one version.
The drama was the creation of Dashiell Hammett, the crime writer, and its story has been told in books and movies, on television and radio.
On Saturday, it will become a readers theater production.
The movie version of The Maltese Falcon with which were so familiar, said Ronna Davis, the one with Humphrey Bogart, is, actually, the third movie version.
Mrs. Davis is a librarian at Edmond Library.
The script which the Reduxion Theater will be using Saturday is a radio play adapted from that third movie, the librarian said.
Producing shortened radio versions of popular movies was not uncommon during the 1940s, Mrs. Davis pointed out.
They served as inducements to get the radio audience to go to see the picture, she explained.
The Maltese Falcon reading production is suitable for teens, adults and senior citizens.
There is no admission charge.
