To the Editor:America needs a reminder that the electoral victories of November were votes for justice, generosity and community, after decades of policy supporting riches for a few and disregard for working families, the hungry, sick and poor.
Americas 30-year dash to deregulation of banking and finance, globalization and tax cuts for the rich created billionaire fortunes for some, but also the greed-driven economic crash we now endure.
More than 70 percent of Americans support health care reform with some kind of universal access for everyone.
It is shameful that our mentally ill are housed in jails, and impoverished families seek medical care in emergency rooms.
The screaming resistance to reform by a tiny minority many of them paid flaks and loudmouth national radio jocks do not represent a reasoned opposition. They are shameless advocates of self-centered comfort for a few, in disregard for the common good of all.
May President Barack Obama and Congress find their spines and voices proclaiming victory for our entire nation, its economic recovery, environmental sustainability, and health care security for every person.
