A 15-year-old girl was hospitalized on Sunday, and the horse she was riding lay dead near NE 63rd Street and N. Air Depot Boulevard. The several other horseback riders got into an altercation with the woman driving the car, and police had to separate the girls and the woman driver once they arrived on the scene.
The girls injuries were not considered to be life-threatening, a police spokesman said.
It was about 6 p.m., and the three or more girls were riding horses on NE 63rd.
As cars approached the group, witnesses told police, riders moved their horses off the road, but one girls horse, apparently, was scared, ran into traffic and was struck by an eastbound vehicle, throwing the girl off the horse.
The woman driving the car that struck the horse told police she had no choice but to hit the horse, since swerving to avoid hitting it would have placed her car in danger of being hit by traffic.
The horse was killed.
MSgt. Gary Knight, an Oklahoma City Police Department spokesman, said the woman driving the car will not be ticketed.
