SOUL AWAKENING COMMUNITY DAY

Perry Publishing & Broadcasting Company has chosen to take one day, Saturday, September 20th, 2008 at the Booker T. Washington Auditorium located 1514 E. Zion Street in Tulsa, to focus on issues that affect our community and discuss these issues to hopefully find a solution.

This one day event is titled, “Soul Awakening Community Day!” Hosted by the Open Mic Team Fred Elkins, Jr. Launa West and Harold Ford.

Free for Everyone to Attend!!!!!

2008 ITINERARY

10:00 am Welcome

10:05am Prayer

10:10-:1030am: Praise & Worship by Resurrection & Life Christian Church

The National Anthem by Lawrence Rosenborough

10:30-11:30am:

State of the Black Church Forum – Panelist will be Dr. Donald O'Neil Tyler of Greater Grace Church, Sharyn Cosby-Willis of In The Spirit Christian Church, Dr. Ray Owens of Metropolitan Baptist Church and Rev. Leroy Cole of Mt. Zion Baptist Church discussing issues facing the Black Church in 2008 and beyond.

11:30n-1:00p:

Women’ Meeting scheduled panelist will be Marla Mayberry, President and CEO of the Tulsa Urban League, Risha Grant, President/CEO of Xposure Magazine, First Lady Marcia Tyler of Greater Grace, Jackie Terry MLK Event , and discussing issues what the Black Female should do to better herself, family and community.

1:15pm-2:25pm

Town Hall Meeting/Soul Awards Presentation: The Town Hall meeting will feature Senator Judy McIntyre, Representative Jabar Shumate and City Councilman Jack Henderson discussing issues facing North Tulsa and the entire city of Tulsa.

Immediately following is the Soul Awards honoring citizens who have made a difference with their contributions to their community. Being honored is Organization of the Year is the Tulsa Job Corp., Entrepreneur of the Year Kelvin & Felicia Murray of Kinfolk Soul Food Kitchen, Volunteer of the Year Carmen Pettie, Public Servant of the year Senator Judy McIntyre, Educator of the Year Deborah Brown of Deborah Brown Charter Schools, and Community Lifetime Achievement Award Robert I. Mayes, SR.

2:30p-3:45pm

Men’s Forum scheduled panelist Ruben Gant, Executive Director of the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce, Kevin Matthews, Administrative Fire Chief of the Tulsa Fire Department, Darick Morton Attorney at Law, and Dr. Art Williams of Langston University. These gentlemen will be discussing issues facing the black male in America and what we can do to help make the black male more productive in our society.

3:45pm-5:00pm Educators Forum – Darryl F. Bright with C.U.B.E.S, waiting on more confirmations of panelist….

5:00pm The Community Day Concludes…
