TULSA--A Big Band music concert will be presented by the Sounds of Music Orchestra at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, at the Monte Cassino Performing Arts Center, 2206 S. Lewis Ave.

The concert is being billed as part of a recording session.

A spokesman for the group said the group will use recordings of the concert for the orchestra’s second album.

Copies of the group’s first recording, “Big Band Swing in the 21st Century,” will be sold at the concert.

The Sounds has 450 tunes in its repertoire, it was said, so that, the group will play a variety of classics, as well as new material.

“We’re a little more diverse these days,” Bob Ferguson, a saxophonist for the band, commented.

“So, you can expect to hear some Billy Joel, Stan Kenton, Ronstadt….all that they did in the Big Band style.”

“Victoria Brooks is going to sing Buble’s ‘Sway,’ ” he continued.

Proceeds from the concert will go toward the Lewis B. Norris Scholarship Fund, which contributes to stipends for youngsters pursuing music studies.

The scholarship fund is named after one of the early trumpet players of the group, who died of cancer while in his 30’s some time ago.

Tickets are $8 each in advance and $10 each at the door.

They may be purchased at Tulsa Band Instruments, 5433 S. Mingo Rd.; the Music Store, 9120 E. 31st St.; McGuire Music, 1110 S. Yale Ave; and Tulsa Air & Space Museum, 3624 N. 74th East Ave.
