ATLANTA--Rev. John F. Green has been named president and dean of the Turner Theological Seminary.The African Methodist Episcopal Church seminary is part of the Interdenominational Theological Center.
Before the appointment, Rev. Green was pastor for 12 years of the Bethel AME Church in Tallahassee, Fla.
Prior to that, he led as pastor the Hurst Chapel AME Church in Orlando, Fla., and the Allen Temple AME Church in Tampa, Fla.
The minister led the effort to create the Bethel Community Development Corp. in Tallahassee and the Life Recovery Center of Bethel AME.
The first organization builds and sells low-income housing, and the other counsels those with drug abuse problems.
The Bethel Community Youth Center, also established under Rev. Greens leadership, provides education support services and other programs.
Rev. Green was named a Black Achiever by the Tallahassee branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and was named a Pacesetter by Leadership Tallahassee.
The minister served as chairman of the Board of Examiners of the 11th Episcopal District of the AME Church, and has been a member of the Strategic Planning Committee of the denomination.
Also, Rev. Green has served as president of the Tallahassee Interdenominational Ministers Alliance.
He graduated from the University of South Florida, and received a master of divinity degree and a doctor of ministry degree from the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.
