'Langston Student' Shumate Awarded Scholarship

LaToya Shumate, a senior at Langston University, was recently awarded a $500 scholarship by the Oklahoma City chapter of the National Pan-Hellenic Council. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student based on his or her academic achievements and community involvement. Miss Shumate is majoring in health administration, and is a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. The scholarship recipient is the daughter of Rose Shumate and Walter Armstrong. The council is comprised of the Alpha Kappa Alpha, Zeta Phi Beta, Delta Sigma Theta and Sigma Gamma Rho sororities, and the Alpha Phi Alpha, Omega Psi Phi, Phi Beta Sigma, Iota Phi Theta and Kappa Alpha Psi fraternities.
